Mario Amura. Napoli Explosion. Fogos, Cores, Luzes is the catalogue of the exhibition presented in Rio de Janeiro in 2025–2026 at Polo Cultural ItaliaNoRio, an initiative of the Italian Cultural Institute of Rio de Janeiro.
The volume brings together a selection of works from Napoli Explosion, the photographic project Mario Amura has been developing since 2010, observing Naples on New Year’s Eve from Monte Faito. Through long exposures, fireworks are transformed into forms suspended between documentation and abstraction, creating a landscape of light, colour and time.
The catalogue features photographs, installation views and two critical essays: Joaquim Marçal Andrade, with Uma reportagem sobre a festa do fogo / Un reportage sulla festa del fuoco, and Serafino Murri, with Um segundo antes / L’attimo prima. It also includes reflections by Sylvain Bellenger and quotations from Salvatore Settis and Erri De Luca.
The Rio exhibition establishes a dialogue between Naples and Rio de Janeiro, two cities that share a powerful collective tradition of New Year’s Eve celebrations, where light, fireworks and the urban landscape become part of a single visual ritual. The catalogue was officially presented on 10 febbraio 2026, marking the conclusion of the exhibition.
