This photograph is a surprise. I recognize the horizon and the city of Naples, but you must have seen Naples on New Year’s Eve to understand that it reflects a very real geographical origin. Without that experience, one might think these images were entirely invented. A long reverie on its weaving, reminiscent of certain tightly woven Missoni fabrics, leads me toward things far removed: the panoramic view of Tokyo, another volcanic city whose nocturnal colors differ completely from those of the day. I also think of Vera da Silva’s paintings and of the artists who work on the very weave of the pictorial surface. Here, light has become texture; it has “interlaced” itself, so to speak.Napex 23322 240×160
