Napoli Explosion at the Albergo dei Poveri: a hymn to the city of Naples on the occasion of its 2,500th anniversary.
The exhibition presents 33 new large-scale works in which the artist captures the luminous spectacle of light and color staged by the Neapolitan people around Mount Vesuvius on New Year’s Eve.
“In the year in which Neapolis celebrates its 2,500th anniversary, I imagined an exhibition capable of challenging our idea of time and the way we perceive it. I immersed the works in an incandescent red light pouring in through the large windows of the Albergo dei Poveri, as if Naples had been hurled onto a star at cosmic dawn. It is the same red as the magma chamber, where the volcano forges matter and its colors. It is the red of the darkroom, the place where the photographer attempts to fix an instant. This exhibition is born from a dialogue between different times: the time of Neapolitan civilization, the geological time of Vesuvius, and the infinitesimal time of the photographic shot.”

Napoli Explosion exhibition by Mario Amura – Real Albergo dei Poveri – Naples
“Napoli Explosion reveals how photography can transform a collective phenomenon into a visual meditation on light and perception. Amura’s images bring together artistic intuition, individual sensibility, and analytical rigor, restoring the luminous vitality of Naples. It is a poetic work of imagery that questions our capacity to see and the way the city itself generates forms, sublimation, emotions, and knowledge.”

The exhibition “Napoli Explosion” represents the culminating moment of the project Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti Infiniti Mondi, dedicated to the exploration of emerging technologies for the creative and cultural industries. The initiative, funded by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy within the framework of the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti call supporting 5G technologies, has led to the creation of a new hub devoted to research and experimentation with the most innovative technologies in the creative and cultural fields, hosted at the Real Albergo dei Poveri in Naples.
“The intention to depict the fateful minutes of revelry took shape after the experience of contemplation… To contemplation, Mario Amura added documentation, then continued along a path of exploration that transforms into art what the senses have perceived. An artist is one who, moved by an impulse of generosity, wishes to give back what has been received as a gift. An artist is not one who seeks to express himself. Here, Mario Amura has impressed the footprint of a people, pressed into a few minutes of carefree glory.”
